Inflexion Games, the studio behind the crafting survival game Nightingale, is planning substantial changes based on player feedback and the developers' own assessment. Read on for details on the upcoming update and the team's vision for the future.
In a recent YouTube video, Inflexion Games' Aaryn Flynn and Neil Thomson acknowledged dissatisfaction with Nightingale's current state, citing player numbers and overall reception as areas needing improvement. A major update, scheduled for late summer, aims to rectify these issues. While the team has focused on quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes since the February early access launch (including the much-requested offline mode), the upcoming update targets a more fundamental restructuring.
The developers identified the game's open-world design as a key area for improvement. Art and audio director Neil Thomson described the game as "almost too open world," lacking sufficient structure and clear progression. The planned update will introduce clearer goals, improved progression indicators, and redesigned realms to address player feedback regarding repetitive environments.
The goal is to enhance the player experience by providing a more focused and guided progression system. Flynn emphasized the need for players to better understand their progress and the distinctions between the various Fae Realms. Further changes include increased build limits for more ambitious player constructions. Previews of the updated content are anticipated in the coming weeks.
Despite currently holding "Mixed" reviews on Steam, Nightingale is seeing a rise in positive feedback, with approximately 68% of recent reviews being positive. The developers expressed appreciation for player support and encouraged continued feedback. Flynn concluded by stating that while further refinement is needed, the upcoming update represents a significant step forward.
Game8 shares similar concerns regarding Nightingale's lack of guidance and overly complex mechanics, particularly in crafting. For a more detailed perspective, check out our full review.
