After 15 years at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has departed. His tenure spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with Modern Warfare 3 (2011). Reisdorf played a pivotal role in the development of 2023's Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, including its live seasonal content and modes.
Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, established in 2009, commenced with his contributions to the original Modern Warfare 3. His work encompassed various aspects, from the Scorched Earth campaign mission to the memorable gurney scene in the Blood Brothers mission, which he described as a highlight.
His influence extended to shaping the "boots on the ground" era of Call of Duty, notably through his work on Advanced Warfare's gameplay mechanics (boost jumps, dodging, tactical reloads), weapon designs, and multiplayer maps. He openly discussed his reservations about the "Pick 13" system, advocating for streak rewards that don't compromise essential loadouts.
Reisdorf also reflected on his involvement in Call of Duty: WW2, expressing relief that the initial class-restricted weapon system was quickly revised. His contributions to Call of Duty: Vanguard included the design of both discovery and traditional three-lane maps, a style he personally prefers for its focus on enjoyable gameplay over strict military realism.
His most recent work culminated in the multiplayer maps for 2023's Modern Warfare 3, including the nostalgic reimagining of classic Modern Warfare 2 maps with subtle additions (like Shepherd's skull on Rust). As creative director, he oversaw the development of over 20 live seasonal modes for Modern Warfare 3, including Season 1's Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes. Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a significant chapter, but he hints at continued involvement within the gaming industry.
