Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on the upcoming PC version of the game, addressing player questions about potential DLC and the modding community. Read on for the details.
DLC: A Matter of Player Demand
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completion of the trilogy's final installment. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content is not currently planned, but he's open to considering player requests. Significant fan demand could potentially sway the decision.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
The game will launch without official mod support, but Hamaguchi acknowledges the inevitable interest from the modding community. He extended a welcome to creative contributions but urged modders to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for player-created content, ranging from enhanced textures to entirely new features, mirrors the impact modding has had on other games. However, the director's call for responsible modding is a reasonable precaution given the potential for misuse.
PC Version Improvements
The PC version boasts graphical enhancements including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing some of the visual criticisms of the original release. More powerful hardware will unlock even higher fidelity 3D models and textures beyond the PS5 capabilities. Porting the numerous mini-games also presented a significant technical challenge.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter in the Remake trilogy, launches on Steam and the Epic Games Store January 23, 2025. For more information, check out our other FF7 Rebirth articles!
