Infinity Nikki: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Open-World Fashion Adventure
A new behind-the-scenes documentary reveals the journey behind the highly anticipated open-world game, Infinity Nikki, launching December 4th (EST/PST) on PC, PlayStation, and mobile. This 25-minute video showcases the dedication and passion of the development team, highlighting their innovative approach to blending the popular Nikki IP with an expansive open-world experience.
The project began in December 2019, born from a desire to let Nikki explore freely in an open-world setting. The initial team worked in secrecy, laying the groundwork for over a year before expanding. Game designer Sha Dingyu describes the unique challenge of integrating the established dress-up game mechanics into a completely new open-world format, a process that required building a framework from the ground up.
This marks the fifth installment in the Nikki franchise, and the first to be released on PC and console. The team chose to push beyond the familiar mobile format, striving for a technological and product upgrade that would evolve the Nikki IP. Their commitment is evident in details like the producer's clay model of the Grand Millewish Tree, a testament to the passion driving the project. The documentary offers glimpses of Miraland's vibrant landscapes, showcasing the Grand Millewish Tree and its inhabitants, including lively NPCs with their own daily routines, adding depth and realism to the world. Game designer Xiao Li highlights the NPCs' dynamic behavior, even while the player is engaged in missions.
The game's stunning visuals are a result of the talented team assembled. In addition to the core Nikki series team, Infinity Nikki boasts experienced international talent. Lead Sub Director Kentaro “Tomiken” Tominaga, a veteran of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and concept artist Andrzej Dybowski, who worked on The Witcher 3, bring their expertise to the project.
From the official start of development on December 28th, 2019, to the launch on December 4th, 2024, the team dedicated over 1814 days to bringing their vision to life. Join Nikki and Momo on their Miraland adventure this December!
