Major PvP Overhaul Testing Begins in Dune: Awakening

Funcom recently addressed Dune: Awakening players' concerns in an AMA, revealing they're "actively developing solutions" to improve the controversial PvP system in the Deep Desert. This follows earlier backlash over griefing issues, even after developers removed the infamous Ornithopter-squishing mechanic.

A New Vision for the Deep Desert

Creative director Joel Bylos penned a heartfelt message acknowledging the game's growing pains: "We're committed to ensuring PvE players can enjoy endgame content without mandatory PvP interactions. That said, we still strongly believe in the original vision for the Deep Desert - a weekly-resetting danger zone where guilds must work together to survive the most perilous region of Arrakis."

PlayThe team now proposes a compromise: certain Deep Desert areas will become "Partial Warfare (PvE)" zones where players can harvest rare materials risk-free, while major spice fields and strategic locations remain high-stakes "War of Assassins (PvP)" territories.

Radical Changes Hit Public Test Server

Within days of this announcement, Funcom deployed sweeping experimental changes through their Public Test Client. The most dramatic adjustment expands the PvE-safe perimeter significantly - going from just one row to covering areas A through D and half of E in the Deep Desert.

As PC Gamer notes, these changes aren't guaranteed for the live build, but demonstrate Funcom's serious commitment to refining the endgame experience after community feedback.

A Triumphant Launch Continues

Dune: Awakening maintains impressive momentum since its June 10 launch, achieving 'Very Positive' Steam reviews and setting new concurrent player records - peaking at 189,333 players recently. With over 1 million copies already sold, it's officially Funcom's fastest-selling title to date.

Our 8/10 review praised its authentic Dune atmosphere and compelling survival progression, while noting combat systems and endgame content need refinement. New players should explore our comprehensive class guides and walkthrough, along with resources for finding essential materials like iron, steel, and aluminum on the deadly sands of Arrakis.
