S-GAME Clarifies Misinterpretation of ChinaJoy 2024 Comments Regarding Xbox

Following reports of controversial statements allegedly made by a Phantom Blade Zero developer at ChinaJoy 2024, S-GAME has issued a statement clarifying their position. Several media outlets, including Aroged and Gameplay Cassi, reported on comments suggesting a lack of Xbox interest in Asia, with some outlets misinterpreting the original statement.

The initial report, originating from a Chinese news source and translated by fans, indicated low interest in Xbox. While some outlets, like Aroged, correctly reported this as a lack of demand for the platform in Asia, Gameplay Cassi's misinterpretation as "nobody needs Xbox" fueled the controversy.

S-GAME's official statement on Twitter(X) refutes the notion that the alleged comments reflect their company values. They emphasize their commitment to broad accessibility for Phantom Blade Zero, stating that no platforms have been excluded. The statement underscores their dedication to ensuring a wide player base at launch and beyond.

The statement, however, doesn't directly address the authenticity of the anonymous source's claim. While Xbox's market share in Asia is undeniably smaller than PlayStation and Nintendo, particularly in Japan (where PS5 sales significantly outpaced Xbox Series X|S), the lack of retail support in many Southeast Asian countries also contributes to the platform's lower presence.

Speculation regarding an exclusive deal with Sony, fueled by previous comments about Sony's development and marketing support, has also been addressed by S-GAME. They have denied any exclusive partnership, reiterating their plans for a PC release alongside the PlayStation 5 version.

While an Xbox release remains unconfirmed, S-GAME's response keeps the possibility open, leaving the future of Phantom Blade Zero's platform availability uncertain but not definitively excluding Xbox.
