Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe recently spoke with ASCII Japan about Palworld's future, specifically addressing the possibility of transitioning to a live service model. While no decisions are finalized, Mizobe confirmed ongoing development, including a new map, Pals, and raid bosses. However, the future hinges on a crucial choice: remain a buy-to-play (B2P) title or embrace a live service model (LiveOps).

Mizobe acknowledged the financial advantages of a live service model, extending the game's lifespan and revenue potential. However, he emphasized the significant challenges. Palworld's initial design wasn't built for this model, presenting a complex transition. Crucially, player preference is paramount. Converting a B2P game to live service, unlike starting F2P, is exceptionally difficult, requiring careful consideration and potentially years of adjustment, as evidenced by the transformations of PUBG and Fall Guys.

Mizobe also discussed alternative monetization strategies. While ad monetization was suggested, he deemed it impractical for a PC game like Palworld, citing the strong negative reaction PC gamers, particularly on Steam, typically have towards in-game advertising.

Currently, Pocketpair focuses on attracting new players while retaining its existing fanbase. The future direction of Palworld remains under careful consideration, with the recent Sakurajima update and the launch of PvP arena mode representing significant steps in its ongoing development. The decision regarding a live service model remains pending, prioritizing player satisfaction and the long-term success of the game.
